From April 18 to 21, the second edition of the Futuros da Liberdade festival, organised by the Supermala Association in partnership with the Ajuda Parish Council, will occupy Lisbon’s Ajuda neighbourhood with a multidisciplinary programme. For four days, Mala (Associação Supermala), Oficina das Artes da Ajuda, Jardim das Damas, Pavilhão Multiusos da Ajuda and Mercado da Ajuda will host concerts, exhibitions, talks, performances and poetry moments.

Conceived under the motto of the 50th anniversary of 25 April 1974, Futuros da Liberdade is one of the 45 projects included in the Art for Democracy programme, an initiative of the Commemorative Commission for the 50th anniversary of 25 April and the Directorate-General for the Arts. What the festival proposes, therefore, is a moment to celebrate freedom, democracy and the art that serves them. At the same time, a reflection on the future of freedoms emerges: those that echo between everyday life and artistic creation. After all, isn’t freedom also experimentation, activism and the possibility of (re)visiting tradition?

Developed by Henrique Loja, Sofia Montanha and Joana Krämer Horta, the programme brings together emblematic and emerging figures on the Portuguese art scene, with various free-entry activities. Guest artists include André Tecedeiro, António Onio, Carla Filipe, Gisela Casimiro, Grupo de Cante Alentejano da Junta de Freguesia da Ajuda, Lara Dâmaso, Lena d’Água, Maria Teresa Horta, Mauro Cerqueira, Nídia, Polido and Teresa Coutinho.

See the full programme on the initiative’s website.
