This initiative marks the launch of the book Square Root, by Sara Bichão, and signals the culmination of a long investigation dedicated to the artist, partially presented in the exhibition Raiz Quadrada / Square Root, on display at Appleton – Associação Cultural between December 2024 and January 2025, curated by Luísa Especial. The publication brings together five texts by Luísa Especial, Noëlig Le Roux, Joana P. R. Neves, Delfim Sardo and the artist Rui Chafes, with versions in Portuguese, French and English, and graphic design by Joana Durães.
This will be the first of four public events that, until the end of the year, will continue to promote the artist in Portugal and France, with stops in Paraguay / Cité des Arts (Paris), MIAM (Sète) – in collaboration with Librairie L’Échappée Belle – and CAC in Torres Vedras.
The book is published by AiR 351, in partnership with Sistema Solar (Documenta) and Paraguay Press, with the support of the Direção-Geral das Artes, the Fundação Carmona e Costa and the Institut Français.
Admission is free, upon collection of an invitation at the MAC/CCB ticket office and subject to room capacity. Further information about the initiative can be found here.
