This international residency programme is open to professional solo artists aged 23 or older who reside outside Germany and work in the fields of visual arts and photography. Artists working in film, multimedia, or music are also eligible, provided their practice has a clear connection to the visual arts. It should be noted, however, that the programme is not intended for curators.
Located on Hamburg's Fleetinsel in the heart of the city, Westwerk brings together artists' studios, galleries, an art bookshop, and a small theatre. The residency is designed to support both the development of an artistic project and meaningful engagement with Hamburg's vibrant cultural scene.
Selected artists will receive comprehensive support throughout their three-month residency at Westwerk. The programme rent-free accommodation in a live/work apartment in the heart of Hamburg, allowing residents to immerse themselves in their artistic practice. In addition to a monthly allowance of €900 to cover living expenses, the residency also includes support for one return journey, as well as a grant of €500 towards the production of a final public presentation.
Beyond the financial support, participants will benefit from mentorship by Westwerk e.V. and opportunities to engage with Westwerk's dynamic cultural community through networking, artistic exchange, and public programming, creating an ideal environment for both creative development and international collaboration.
