The Prague Quadrennial’s mission is to work and reflect upon scenography and theatre architecture. In this context, the performative space is thoroughly examined in its several variants and points of view, not only by architects and scenographers, but also by artists and performers.

Under the direction of Pavla Petrová, the 2019 edition has as its motto Imagination, Transformation, Memory and Portugal will feature a commission represented by DGARTES to integrate the section Countries.

José Capela is the chosen artist and curator for this representation, to which he developed the installation Windows – a series of mirrored containers which, on the one hand, allude to a fragmented landscape of surrounding environments and, on the other hand, mirror the complex architecture and the intricate mechanisms of theatre. Inside those containers, people may see a variety of models from scenography spaces, while at the same time they may think about the idea of immersivity, a rather important component of these spaces and practices.

The 14th Prague Quadrennial will happen from 6 to 16 June, at the Industrial Palace Výstaviště Praha. On 10 June the catalogue Windows (JC + JCD) will be launched, accompanied by mala voadora’s performance Ovid’s Metamorphoses, at the Studio Hrdinů from the Veletržní Palác.
