Susumu Shingu is a Japanese artist with a work whose materiality expands beyond its stringent contours, to embrace the space where it is installed. The installations now featured at Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean are exhibited inside and outside, under several public and private environments, but always in a direct dialog with the museum’s architecture conceived by Ieoh Ming Pei.

Perhaps as a result of a cultural, artistic and architectural landscape, quite attentive to elements typical of Japanese authors, Shingu works the wind, water, light, rain and snow as if they were other media. Nature is the work’s greatest trigger, giving it a unique spirit, a life beyond any gaze or spectator. In other words, this is an atmospheric work, in perfect communion with the natural environment.

Until 6 January 2019, Spaceship, of Susumu Shingu (represented in Europe by the Galerie Jeanne Bucher Jeager), at Mudam, with 12 kinetic sculptures on display.
