Casa Amarela – Galeria Municipal de Castelo Branco welcomes the most recent solo exhibition of Ana Romãozinho, Tipologia, which opened on October 17.

The acknowledgment of space as having the memory of its habitation, as a living scenery that is part of human experience, is the beginning of the artist’s reflection on the exhibition. Ana Romãozinho suggests reinterpreting the space, creating a plastic narrative about the «typology» of Casa Amarela [Yellow House]. Each room has a piece of an exhibition route. Each piece unfolds from the possible interpretation of the dwelling or occupation of this Casa [House].

«Walls were painted, nails were nailed and things were put together by kinship, as other species that inhabit places usually do. There are four rooms: the yellow room; the pink-blue bedroom; the naturally green garden; and also the studio», Romãozinho writes about Tipologia. The room develops on the idea of the collective and of shared experience. The pink-blue room assumes a role of introspective isolation – a separate, reclusive space. The green garden shows the need for human insertion in nature. Finally, the studio, described by the artist as «the first place, which holds the beginning of things».

With a game-like concept recurrently used in the artist’s work and played by the audience, this exhibition offers an experience based on the concept of house. What is the role of each division? What dialogue do these divisions establish among themselves? What dialogue between the pieces presented and the space where they are, be it the space of the room of the house or the house as a set of rooms? The artist presents an exhibition designed to be inhabited by the objects on display. The space is not abstracted. The artist intends to explore the space that empowers not only the exhibition of works later added to the environment, but the thought about these works. «Objects live in this flat and the floor has been remodelled to serve the needs of these tenants», Romãozinho writes.

Tipologia is on view at Casa Amarela – Galeria Municipal de Castelo Branco until January 9.
