UmbigoLAB @ ArtWorks artist residency
—
UmbigoLAB – an online platform founded in 2018 with the support of Fundação Millennium bcp – has been actively working towards a new dynamic of exhibition, dissemination, and communication in the contemporary art scene.
In 2020, the platform will finally expand itself beyond the virtual realm, presenting its first offline initiative: an artist residency taking place in the facilities and with the resources of ArtWorks – to be held in November.
The artist residency in question, entitled UmbigoLAB @ ArtWorks, intends to broaden the platform’s scope of action, affirming its versatility in the contemporary art scene. It attempts not only to reach a new dynamic in terms of exhibition, dissemination and communication, but also, in this context, a new stimulus to creation.
It starts with this UmbigoLAB Call, which foresees the selection of one artist/collective duly registered and with at least three projects published on the platform at the date of application.
UmbigoLAB will consider eligible any artist/collective listed here at the date of application, regardless of age, gender, nationality, place of residence, and date of registration on the platform, excluding any artist/collective who, although fulfilling the above, has already participated in other ArtWorks‘ artist residency.
The applicant artist/collective must submit an artistic project that considers the specific context of the artist residency, in which it is proposed to reuse surplus materials – those that will be available at ArtWorks‘ facilities.
UmbigoLAB will assign the selection of the winning artist/collective to the jury: Alice Bonnot, Paulo Mendes, and Sandra Vieira Jürgens, along with Umbigo and Fundação Millennium bcp.
We invite you to learn the rules and submit your application (between July 1 and September 13).
