AQUEDUCTO is an artistic and writing creation project that brings together contemporary practices, scientific research and technological contexts. Starting from the image of the aqueduct as a structure of connection and circulation, the project establishes channels of encounter among different territories, knowledge, and ways of doing, linking Braga to Vila do Conde through Barcelos and Póvoa de Varzim. Throughout this cycle of residencies, artists are invited to develop research and experimentation processes in contact with industrial, laboratory and scientific contexts.
Organised into two axes of work — visual arts and writing/thought — the project promotes dialogue among different ways of thinking, experimenting, and producing knowledge. The residencies prioritise process, experimentation, and relationships with work contexts, rather than presenting predefined proposals or results.
The residencies will take place between February and March 2027 in the spaces of ArtWorks, UPCA, and i3S, according to the characteristics and interests of each process, with a final exhibition also planned at the Gnration space in Braga. The selected artists will have the opportunity to engage with different work contexts, materials, equipment, technologies, and knowledge, developing artistic processes in dialogue with scientific and technological research. Each residency will be mentored by Filipa da Rocha Nunes and Teresa Arega, integrating a context of sharing and dialogue with the other participants in the program.
Participation includes artistic mentorship and access to work environments provided by project partners, with an artist grant of €2,000 + VAT. Travel and accommodation will be self-managed by the participating artists.
The application, which must include a portfolio, letter of motivation, and biography, should allow us to understand the artistic practice and issues that permeate each candidate's work, as well as the possibilities for research and experimentation to be explored in the context of the residency. The goal will be to understand how each candidate's interests can interact with the contexts, resources, and research and creation opportunities offered by AQUEDUCTO.
Applications must be submitted by November 20, 2026, to residenciasaqueducto@gmail.com. More information about this Open Call is available here.
