The programme includes La Chute d'Icare by British composer Brian Ferneyhough, one of the central figures of the New Complexity movement in Coventry, internationally recognised as one of the most influential thinkers on contemporary music. Two world premieres will also be presented: a new piece by Pedro Berardinelli, co-commissioned by the DME Project and the Schallfeld Ensemble, with the support of SKE / Austro Mechana, and the work Sangue inverso: Hematite (VII) – Inverso Sangue: Rútilo (VII), by Jaime Reis, commissioned by the DME Project.
Under the direction of conductor Jean-Philippe Wurtz, the DME Ensemble will feature the participation of performers Alex Waite (piano), Ana Maria Santos and Carlos Silva (clarinets), Mafalda Carvalho (flute), Tiago Coimbra (oboe), Beatriz Costa (violin), Ângela Carneiro (cello), António Augusto Aguiar (double bass) and Francisco Cipriano (percussion).
Created in 2013 by composer Jaime Pereira as part of the DME Project, to promote the practice of contemporary and electroacoustic music, the DME Ensemble has developed numerous multidisciplinary and educational projects. Its activity also extends to renowned stages and festivals, both nationally and internationally, with highlights including performances at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Casa da Música, Loop Festival (Brussels, Belgium), Logos Foundation (Belgium) and Palladium (Malmö, Sweden).
