Galeria NAVE announces Open Call O Banquete (1), a curatorial project that proposes the table as a space for meeting, listening, and sharing, establishing itself as a platform for visibility, professionalisation and internationalisation for emerging Portuguese visual artists.
The project will take the form of a collective exhibition to be presented at Galeria NAVE, in Lisbon, between 7 May and 26 June 2026, a period that coincides with ARCOLisboa week, as part of the official circuit of visits to participating galleries. During May 2026, the artist selected for a one-month artistic residency in Berlin will be announced. The residency, which includes curatorial support and a final open studio, will take place in October or November 2026, in partnership with GlogauAIR – Artist Residency Berlin. As part of the Open Call, an Acquisition Award will also be granted, subject to confirmation of institutional partnership.
Inspired by the idea of coexistence, dialogue and multiplicity, O Banquete (1) proposes a simple curatorial device: a long table runs across the gallery space, functioning as a metaphor for encounter and equality between diverse artistic practices. The 11 selected artists, whose works will be included in the collective exhibition, will occupy a segment of the table, presenting a work that represents their authorial universe, without any imposition of theme or medium.
The Open Call is aimed at visual artists of Portuguese nationality, residing in Portugal or abroad, with no age limit and with training in the arts. All media are accepted — painting, sculpture, installation, video, performance and new media — reinforcing the plural and cross-cutting nature of the project. The selection of participating artists will be made by an independent national and international jury, bringing together leading artists, curators and institutional representatives, including Mercedes Cerón and Catarina Pedroso (Galeria NAVE), artists Tomaz Hipólito, Arturo Comas and Elisabeth Sonneck, as well as curators Carolina Quintela, Alfredo Llopico and Suzy Royal.
Applications are open until 1 March and must be submitted via an online form, followed by a selection period that runs until 22 March 2026. More information available here.
