The 3rd edition of Centro Mutável, taking place between November and December 2025 in Montemor-o-Novo, brings together a cycle of workshops, talks, and an exhibition, consolidating itself as a project dedicated to artistic creation and critical reflection from the local territory.
In this edition, the focus of the program falls on speculative exercise, understanding artistic practice as an open and intuitive process, where matter, gesture, body, and language are primarily tools of freedom, discovery, and thought. The artists invited to this edition – Maja Escher, João dos Santos Martins, and David Gonçalves – present proposals that broaden this speculative horizon.
On November 29th and 30th, 2025, João dos Santos Martins will lead the workshop Gestos Especulativos, exploring the intersection between choreographed and improvised gestures, resulting from an intuitive interpretation of the score. The workshop will take place in different spaces in Montemor-o-Novo throughout the weekend, seeking to understand how context interferes with the dynamics between body and language.
On December 6th and 7th, Maja Escher will lead the workshop Oferecer ao sol, which explores the relationship between earth, plants, and the human body, promoting a connection with ancestral and situated knowledge as a tool for care, resilience, and ecological resistance.
Finally, on December 13th and 14th, 2025, David Gonçalves will lead the workshop Pelos Vistos, where drawing, installation, and sculpture will be explored experimentally, emphasizing the unpredictable use of tools, materials, and the body itself, and proposing new relationships with space.
In February 2026, Conversations Around the Center III will take place, distributed across various spaces in Montemor-o-Novo, in a nomadic format that follows the locations and works developed duringfferent spaces in Montemor-o-Novo, in a nomadic format that follows the locations and works developed in the workshops. In a collaborative and exploratory environment, this program aims to bring together guest artists, participants, and the local community, fostering a direct relationship with the city, the landscape, and the processes that shape them.
The project is a co-production of Oficinas do Convento and VICARTE - Glass and Ceramics for the Arts, curated by João Rolaça and Margarida Alves, and has the support of the Municipality of Montemor-o-Novo. More information about the program and registration for the workshops is available here.
